Who is eligible?

Any person...

Who is a *resident in Kenya?

  • Has attained the age of 18 years. (No age limit after the age of 18 years)
  • Whose total income from salaried or self-employment is more than Kshs. 1,000 per month or Kshs. 12,000 per year.
  • Drawing an income from Kenya
  • Working under contract or casual terms of employment
  • It also includes voluntary contributors
  • * This includes foreign visitors permitted to work or study in Kenya

What do I need to bring?
Kenyan Residents

1. Copy of National I.D (including spouse if applicable)

2. Copy of Employer Appointment/Introduction Letter (excludes self employed/voluntary contributors)

3. Coloured passport photo (including spouse & dependants if applicable)

4. Original & copies of Birth Certificate(s) for dependants

Foreign Residents

1. Copies of passport, alien certificate or work permit (including spouse if applicable)

2. Coloured passport photo (including spouse & dependants if applicable)

Foreign Students

1. Copy of passport

2. Coloured passport photo

3. Submit the required amount under the Voluntary/Self Employed Category

Payroll Byproduct / Pay Online

NHIF have introduced a far more efficient & faster method of collecting employers monthly payroll byproducts to NHIF via the online Byproduct system.

Rather than sending hard copy documents or email of the same to NHIF, you can just register and upload it once you login. This makes processing faster and reduces the chances of human error.

When is the deadline for filing PAYE on the KRA iTax Portal?

The deadline for filing PAYE income tax is on the 9th Day of the following month. For example remitting the returns for income earned in the month of January will be due by the 9th of February.

When is the deadline for filing NHIF?

The deadline for filing NHIF contributions is also on the 9th Day of the following month. For example the contributions for the month of January will be due by the 9th of February.

When is the deadline for filing NSSF?

The deadline for filing NSSF contributions is on the 15th Day of the following month. For example the contributions for the month of January will be due by the 15th of February.

Why am I unable to file PAYE returns for this month on the KRA iTax?

The KRA iTax Portal will allow you to file returns of your current month as from the first day of the next month. For example, the option to upload the PAYE returns for January will be available from the first day of February and will be due by the 9th day of February. This means that as from the first day of the month you will have 9 days to file your returns for the previous month.
